Beasts of the Southern Wild | Criminally Overrated | Spectrum Culture

Beasts of the Southern Wild | Criminally Overrated | Spectrum Culture:
The most obvious criticism that has been leveled at Beast of the Southern Wild concerns its strangely isolationist ideology. The denizens of the so-called Bathtub, a community living proudly in dilapidated squalor that unavoidably brings to mind post-Katrina New Orleans, stridently reject any and all government assistance or intervention. They espouse an oddly libertarian ethos that feels inappropriate given the outsider status of Beasts of the Southern Wild’s creators, a crew of filmmakers led by director and co-writer Benh Zeitlin
