    • Louis Frayser Aw, this was just some girl's sci-fy joke about caring for earth before trying to cover the whole universe.
      
      But, if you insist:
      
      When I was working I just wished the govt would just stay out of my check and let me handle my own future care. The problem with that is some people are irresponsible and won't save for the future.
      
      Now that they have already taken my money, I need the US to either refund it with interest, or to live up to their bargain and pay my medical bills once I'm 67 or so.
      
      There are many health care models that could work in an honest society--look at other countries. Our problem is corruption in the US government. What works for another country won't work here because US politicians squander whatever money you give them.
       
      

      My solution is for parents to educate children to save and provide for themselves in old age. If the government keeps up it's end of the bargain(what ever the bargain), then good; but don't bet on it! One has to be flexible, even to to point of migrating to, or seeking health care in, a new country, just as people come here for opportunity.
      
      Ideally a citizen could choose to save for himself, join a HMO, or even a government plan such as the VA, Medicaid or anything the government approved of. It would be the government's along w/ private agencies' job to certify that the plans are keeping honest. Of course this can't be done with a crooked government or crooked private sector.
      
      I was raised to believe "Uncle Sam is your friend." GE, Ford, Phillip Morris, Kaiser, AT&T were all our heroes. We have pretty much been screwed by all of them. Until these agencies get some morality, US citizens need to fend for themselves. That might mean revolution, moving to another country, or sticking it out if one is strong, rich, or clever enough.
      
      In short, "Life's a bitch and then you die :)"
